Here's where to look for the records most people ask about in Hartford County:
- Superior Court case files: contact the Clerk of the Superior Court at the court location that has the case. Hartford Judicial District, 95 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106; Chief Clerk 860-548-2700; fax 860-548-2783; public hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with doors opening at 8:30 a.m.
- Family and Court Service Center matters: use the Superior Court building at 90 Washington Street, Hartford, CT 06106. Family Clerk's Office 860-706-5100; Court Service Center 860-706-5064.
- Criminal and motor vehicle court matters: use Geographical Area 14 at Hartford, 101 Lafayette Street, Hartford, CT 06106, or the Judicial Branch criminal/motor vehicle lookup described on the criminal records page.
- Marriage and divorce records: see marriage and divorce records. Divorce decrees are Superior Court family records; Hartford city marriage certificates are handled by the Hartford Bureau of Vital Records.
- Probate, wills, and estates: see Probate Court. Hartford Probate Court is at 250 Constitution Plaza, 3rd Floor, Hartford, CT 06103-2814; telephone 860-757-9150; fax 860-724-1503; hours Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Jail roster: see inmate records. Connecticut uses Department of Correction custody records rather than a Hartford County jail roster.
- Active warrants: see warrant records. The Judicial Branch VOP/FTA search does not cover every warrant type.
- Other agency records: Connecticut Freedom of Information Act requests under Title 1, Chapter 14 generally go to the agency that keeps the record, such as a police department, DOC, DPH, DMV, or municipal office.
